Cairo on 29th of March 2021– Emaar Misr celebrated, on Sunday, the delivery of the second phase of the Beyout Al Kheir Project to deserving families in the village of Al Gharirah, Isna, in Luxor in presence of Luxor Governorate Assistant Secretary Dr. Emad Aboul Azayem representing Governor Mr. Mostafa Alhem and Mr. Khaled Omran, head of Misr El Kheir Foundation in Luxor along with several representatives and officials from both the governorate and the foundation. Beyout Al Kheir Project is funded by Emaar Misr under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity and in cooperation with Misr El-Kheir Foundation.
As part of Emaar Misr’s social responsibility, the second phase of Beyout Al Kheir Project targets building 431 housing units in Luxor and Sharqiya, renovating two orphanages in Beni Suef and Assiut, and create sustainable income-generating projects in the targeted governorates.
Emaar Misr has made sure to use environmentally safe materials in the reconstruction of houses, the company also helps residents through income-generating projects, specifically handicraft and trade projects such as supporting carpentry workshops, grocery stores, and stationeries to create a permanent source of income that provides them with a decent life.
Dr. Emad Aboul Azayem, Assistant Secretary in Luxor, delivered a speech on behalf of the Governor of Luxor in which he emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government and private sector through activating the role of civil society institutions in achieving community development and social justice. He praised the efforts made by Emaar Misr for Development and Misr El Kheir Foundation to support the poor and most deserving villages by rebuilding homes while working to provide job opportunities for the people to ensure a decent life for them. He also urged all officials to cooperate with civil society institutions and facilitate their work in support of humanity.
Mohamed Ali Alabbar, Founder of Emaar Properties, said: “The second phase of Beyout El Kheir project comes in response to the Egyptian state’s directions to provide a decent life to the different segments of society, particularly low-income families and individuals, preserving human dignity and achieving social justice. Since 2018, Emaar Misr has been building a housing unit for a deserving family in need for every unit that Emaar develops in its projects in Egypt.”
He added: “Sustainability is at the core of Emaar Misr values. Therefore, we do not only build houses for today, we provide micro-credit projects with the goal of achieving sustainable development.”
Emaar Misr had finalized the first phase of Beyout El Kheir project last year in the governorates of Aswan, Qena, Matrouh and Behaira as 945 houses were reconstructed and restored and the living environment was rehabilitated in the four governorates through building roofs, reparation of the walls, development of the households’ drainage systems and connecting potable water to homes in addition to creating 500 income-generating products for the most in-need families in the field of poultry farming. The families were selected based on a comprehensive nationwide study that puts into consideration factors such as the number of family members, the condition of the heads of the family, geographical location, the size of the residence along with other elements to ensure that the support reaches those who truly need it.
Eng. Ahmed Ali, Head of Social Solidarity at Misr El Kheir Foundation, said: “Misr El-Kheir has rebuilt these homes and provided income-generating projects with the goal of improving the living environment for the most deserving families in the most deserving areas with an emphasis on empowerment. The old houses were demolished by their owners, as they were dilapidated, risky, and unfit for housing. Then Misr El Kheir Foundation rebuilt them from scratch and linked them to all utilities. Today, we celebrate delivering them to beneficiaries. The construction of these houses comes within the second phase of the Beyout El Kheir project, which is being implemented in a number of governorates. The second phase focuses on rebuilding more than 400 houses in Sharqiya and Luxor next to launching 45 sustainable micro income-generating projects to empower deserving families and unlock an income that meets their needs to lead a decent life.” He stressed the importance of public-private-civil society partnerships in serving deserving communities.
Last March, Emaar Misr also cooperated with Misr El-Kheir Foundation, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, when Egypt was hit with floods, to help citizens whose homes were damaged in different parts of Sharqiya governorate’s El Husseiniya Center, including the villages of Bahr Al Baqar, Kafr Al Azzazi, and Al Qatawyah and meeting the needs of each house from restoration to rehabilitation and reconstruction. A study has also been completed on the needs of 250 houses that require roofing and restoration, in addition to a number of other houses requiring a complete reconstruction. Another study is being finalized on the needs of other homes, a play area is being constructed, lighting is being installed on some roads, and more income-generating jobs are being created.
