Emaar Misr contributes with EGP 140 mn to develop Sidi Abdel Rahman Village and provide Covid-19 vaccine
Cairo, January 31, 2021 – Tahya Misr Fund and Emaar Misr signed an MoU to the Sidi Abdel Rahman village sustainable development cooperation protocol concluded in September 2020, aimed at raising the quality of life for the village residents. The two sides also signed an agreement to provide Covid-19 vaccine to the poor through Emaar Misr’s contribution of EGP 30 mn within President’s Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative ‘We Share for Humanity’.
The protocol is under the patronage of the Minister of Health Dr. Hala Zayed, and the Minister of Education Dr. Tarek Shawky. It was signed in the presence of Major General Mohamed Amin Nasr, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Financial Affairs and Treasurer of Tahya Misr Fund, Major General Khaled Shuaib, Governor of Marsa Matrouh, and Mr. Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar Properties.
The annex to the protocol comes in light of the two parties’ desire to further develop Sidi Abdel Rahman Village and provide additional services to its residents to achieve sustainable development and improve the indicators of quality of life in the village. The new annex agreement comes at a financial cost of an additional EGP 60 mn, which brings the total cost of sustainable development projects in the village to EGP 110 mn provided by Emaar Misr.
Tamer Abdel Fattah, Executive Director of the Tahya Misr Fund, expressed his happiness with the strategic partnership with Emaar Misr. “The cooperation protocol signed with Emaar Misr last September included the development of the village’s clinic, developing and equipping the ‘Moaz Bin Jabal’ primary school, designing and implementing a rainwater collection and drainage network in the village. By signing the protocol annex, today, a number of projects will be added to ensure the improvement of all aspects of life within the village of Sidi Abdel Rahman,” he said.
For his part, Mr. Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar Properties, said: “Emaar Misr is keen on permanent cooperation and partnership with the Egyptian government and the Tahya Misr Fund to implement development projects that add value to people’s lives. By signing the protocol annex, a new 33-calssroom primary school will be designed, built, and equipped, next to developing and equipping Sidi Abdel Rahman Preparatory School with a capacity of nine classrooms, establishing a secondary education building in the same school with a capacity of 14 classrooms, and raising the architectural efficiency and providing administrative equipment and furniture for the Youth and Child Library,” he said.
“We at Emaar Egypt believe in the importance of facilities and services to guarantee a decent life for people. We also believe in the education’s role in changing peoples’ lives for a better future,” he stressed.
Alabbar said that the covid-19 crisis, which affected everyone, requires solidarity in order to protect the health and future of peoples. Therefore, it was necessary to respond to the ‘For Humanity’ initiative and to participate in providing the Coronavirus vaccine to one million people.
The protocol annex signed between Tahya Misr and Emaar Misr also includes the establishment of a Tahya Misr Fund Services Complex, which would include several government services center, such as Egypt Post, local unit offices, Nasser Social Bank branch, social insurance office, a branch for the notary office, a supply ministry office, and a civil registry unit.
The services complex also includes a community service center that provides child skills development, activities for disabled children, a communication center, a physiotherapy center, a women’s services center, a psychological support and family reconciliation center, an inclusive nursery, an illiteracy eradication hall, a training and rehabilitation center that includes crafts training halls and a school of tourism and hotels.
The services complex includes a sports city that includes two football fields, a multi-use sport court, an individual sports arena, a dual sports area, a swimming pool, locker rooms, bathrooms, an administrative building, and a complex of commercial units.
Last September, Emaar Misr signed a cooperation protocol with Tahya Misr Fund in the context of activating the Emaar Misr’s social responsibility role and improving the conditions of the communities in which it works.
Emaar Misr contributed EGP 20 mn as a first stage to support the infrastructure and service provided to the 4,479 Sidi Abdel Rahman Village resident, where illiteracy rate reaches 25.5%, and unemployment reaches 31.2%. These high rates urged intervention to raise the quality of educational, health, and economic services provided to young people to create job opportunities and increase training.
A study of the problems and requirements of sustainable development in the village of Sidi Abdel Rahman, was conducted by Emaar Misr with the Tahya Misr Fund, Marsa Matrouh Governorate, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the Ministry of Local Development that resulted in a development plan in consultation and coordination with community leaders in the village of Sidi Abdel Rahman to provide facilities and health and educational services of a high standard for the village’s residents.
Last April, Emaar Misr donated EGP 10 mn for the Tahya Misr Fund to support the medical system.
