Cairo, 21st of September 2020 – The Tahya Misr Fund and Emaar Misr have signed a cooperation protocol to implement the sustainable development plan in Sidi Abdel Rahman Village in Matrouh governorate, in aims of raising the quality of life, urban, social, economic, and services indexes for the village’s inhabitants. The ceremony took place with the presence of Major General Mohamed Amin Nasr, advisor to the president and the general-secretary of Tahya Misr Fund and Mr. Mohamed Alabbar, representing Emaar Misr, and in the presence of Dr. Nevine ElKabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Dr. Tarek Shawki, Minister of Education and Technical Education.
The cooperation protocol between Emaar Misr and Tahya Misr Fund comes within the framework of upholding Emaar Misr’s role of social responsibility to develop Egypt as well as its interest in improving the conditions of communities where it operates and ensuring the presence of services and utilities that guarantee a decent life for the area’s inhabitants. Emaar Misr is allocating EGP 20 million towards supporting the first infrastructure and services stage for the residents of Sidi Abdel Rahman Village who amount to around 4,479 inhabitants with an illiteracy rate of up to 25.5% and an unemployment rate of 31.2%, which requires working on improving the quality of education and economic services provided to the village’s youth to create job opportunities and increase educational programs to enhance their competency.
During the protocol’s signing, the CEO of Tahya Misr Fund Tamer Abdel Fattah said the fund has made important strides towards providing a decent life to families most deserving of care across the country in the framework of the presidential initiative to develop and upgrade the most deserving villages, elaborating that bolstering partnerships with civil society organizations and the private sector achieved a breakthrough in executing the fund’s projects in various sectors.
He added that the cooperation protocol with Emaar Misr exemplifies this partnership, especially that it paves the road to expand the base of beneficiaries of the available capabilities provided by the fund and Emaar Misr, be it in the fields of urban development, healthcare sector, social assistance, economic empowerment, or educational and training support.
Abdel Fattah explained that pursuant to the protocol, the efficiency of the health services provided to the inhabitants of Sidi Abdel Rahman Village will be enhanced through developing the infrastructure of the healthcare unit in the village and the provision of the needed medicine and medical equipment to provide distinctive healthcare services to the inhabitants of the village and the nearby towns, in addition to rendering technical support to the unit’s medical staff through organizing monthly visits by specialized doctors to treat the most common diseases in the village and carry out medical examinations of the patients.
On the educational level, “Moaz Bin Gabal” Elementary School will be renovated and equipped and its entire infrastructure -buildings and grounds- will be boosted, with a new building to be built that will house 13 furnished classrooms along with activities’ halls, computer labs, a library, science lab, a sports’ field, and a playground area.
As for the infrastructure development field, a rainwater collection and drainage network will be designed and executed in the village, additionally, in the field of social and economic support, aid convoys will be organized for in-kind assistance and activities will be provided to economically empower the village’s residents, ensuring the creation of job opportunities for them.
For his part, Mr. Mohamed Alabbar, representative of Emar Misr Company, said that real estate projects have no value without prioritizing human lives, their needs, and aspirations for having a decent life and everything that they would require in terms of utilities and services, especially those related to health and education, as the current global coronavirus crisis has shown that health and education are two of the most important fields that should be invested in as they are the future and the guarantee to better lives for individuals and their safety, thereby they are the guarantee to the continuation of all other economic projects.
Mr. Alabbar affirmed that Emaar Misr is highly interested in developing the communities that it operates in through a permanent partnership with the Egyptian government, and this protocol is considered the kickstart of the partnership between Emaar Misr and Tahya Misr Fund to implement a number of development projects. The fund has cooperated with Matrouh Governorate, the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Local Development to conduct a clear study on the obstacles and prerequisites to sustainable development in Sidi Abdel Rahman Village – and we were eager to participate in this field with all these entities to ensure the provision of services that take into account the human dimension of the area’s population and to emphasize the sustainability of these services with the same quality, especially that the development plan was made in consultation and coordination with the community leaders in Sidi Abdel Rahman Village to provide high-quality utilities and health and educational services to the area’s residents.
Emaar Misr has previously allocated EGP 878 million towards national projects spearheaded by the Egyptian government. It has also made a contribution of EGP 10 million to Tahya Misr Fund and the healthcare sector last April to support the Egyptian state’s efforts to combat the repercussions of the Covid-19 virus. Emaar Misr has also launched in 2018 Beyout Al Kheir Project, with the first stage seeing 1,000 housing units renovated and rehabilitated. The project’s second phase has been launched in a number of governorates to restore and rehabilitate more housing units and help create income-generating projects. Beyout Al Kheir is considered one of the biggest development projects funded by the private sector in Egypt, whereby Emaar Misr constructs a housing unit for a family in need for every unit it builds in its projects in Egypt.
